Canyons Barbeque - A Taste of Authentic BBQ in Castro Valley

After my granddaughter’s softball game, we decided to try Canyons Barbeque in Castro Valley for dinner. It was our first time there, and I can say we will definitely be going back. We arrived a little late and unfortunately the ribs were already sold out. However, my husband ordered a rib sandwich, so we still got to taste the rib meat—and it was absolutely delicious. Next time we’ll make sure to get there earlier so we can order the ribs! The mac and cheese was fantastic, the prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. While I was waiting at the bar for drinks, there was a very disgruntled customer who was extremely rude from the start. I had been behind him when we ordered, and unfortunately I witnessed his behavior toward the staff. One of the employees—whose name I believe was Rocco (forgive me if I misspelled it)—handled the situation like a total professional. Honestly, if I owned a business, I’d hire someone like him in a heartbeat. Overall, the food was great, the drinks were wonderful, and the employees were amazing. We’ll definitely be bringing our family back again—this time early enough to get those ribs!

This review is only for the seasonal Rhubarb pie.. and what a pie it is! Really good rhubarb and probably one of the best. Also comes with a side of ice cream. Easy to find parking, although its difficult to see the restaurant as its on the back side of Philz and on a side street. They must sell out quickly of dessert because this is all they had left at 3:30pm, but this pie didnt disappoint. It was like $9.00 for a slice; i hardly eat out nowadays, but im assuming that's a normal price? Will be back soon to try other desserts (probably get there earlier next time).

As someone who grew up in the south and has been looking for BBQ to scratch that itch, this is some of the best BBQ I've eaten on the west coast. I got the pulled pork sandwich and thoguht the meat was perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the BBQ and Spicy BBQ sauce that you can pour yourself. Which is great, because I normally like a ton of sauce on BBQ sandwiches.
